Traficom is about to complete the port state control (PSC) inspection of the Eagle S it began on 2 January 2025. The Eagle S is suspected of damaging the Estlink 2 electricity transmission cable and four data cables on Christmas Day.
The inspection of the ship that is now anchored in Kilpilahti near Porvoo progressed well over the weekend, and only one more inspection visit will be made on board the ship. Traficom inspectors have inspected the technical state, environmental aspects, certificates and documentation of the ship and the conditions of the crew on board. The inspection has also included drills to ensure the correct operation of the ship's crew and equipment. During the inspection, Traficom has continued to cooperate with the Finnish police to support the police investigation.
"The inspection of the Eagle S has been carried out in good cooperation with the ship's crew. The inspection has been extensive, and we have taken the crew’s workload into account during the entire process. We are satisfied with how the inspection has progressed,” says Sanna Sonninen, Director-General of Maritime Sector at Traficom.
Traficom will report on the results of the PSC inspection of the Eagle S and possible decisions concerning the ship’s seaworthiness on Wednesday 8 January 2025.
