You can get a driving licence for a tractor once you have turned 15. With a tractor licence, i.e. a category T driving licence, you can also drive a snowmobile and a tractor quad bike with a maximum speed of 60 kilometres per hour.
Do the following
Apply for a driving licence permit
You must have a driving licence permit when you take the theory test for the driving examination. If the driving licence for a tractor is your first driving licence, apply for a driving licence permit for the first driving licence. If you already have, for example, a driving licence for a moped or light quadricycle, apply for a driving licence permit to upgrade your driving licence

Participate in driving instruction
Complete the Training for candidates for first driving licences (EAS), 4 theory lessons. The training provides you with
- basic information about the road traffic system;
- vehicle interaction and risks;
- factors affecting road safety;
- responsibilities and obligations associated with driving motor vehicles; and
- other requirements for driving safely and with good situational awareness.
If you have previously completed the training for another driving licence, you do not need to take it again.
The training may be provided by a driving school or arranged by another officially approved instructor, such as a school. The training cannot be provided under a driving instruction permit.
The driving licence for a tractor does not include driving lessons or other compulsory driving instruction.
Take the theory test
You can take a theory test included in the driving examination after turning 15.
If you are banned from driving, you cannot take the theory test. When you take the theory test, you will need:
• a photo ID, such as a passport or ID card
• a paper certificate that you have completed the Training for candidates for first driving licences. You will get the certificate from the training provider. You do not need a certificate if you already have a driving licence of some kind
• Guardians' consent form if you are a minor
In addition, you need a valid driving licence permit.
The organiser of the theory test, Ajovarma, will check the validity of the permit in the Traficom system. Ajovarma is a company providing services for Traficom.
After your theory test has been approved, you will receive your driving licence by post
After passing the theory test, you will receive an examination certificate with which you are entitled to drive a tractor for up to six months in mainland Finland. This will serve as your driving licence as long as you also carry your photo ID. Keep the examination certificate with you until you receive your official driving licence.
You will receive the driving licence by post in approximately two weeks. The tractor driving licence is valid for 15 years. After that, you must renew your driving licence.
